Hi folks!
There are some very basic things you can do to retain clients. And over and over this is pointed out to me by my clients and why they continue to work with me. You may think its some kind of black magic but its not, its super simple:
Communication!
I know what your saying: “I communicate just fine!”
Sure you do, but do you do it quickly? If a client emails me, I email back within minutes about 95% of the time. I truly believe my clients see value in this. It makes them feel like they are the only client I have because I stopped what Im doing to answer a question that is probably very important to them. I will also try to do this on the weekends. Like you, I get my work emails on my phone and if Im watching a game on the weekend and I get a work email, am I really going to miss a lot of the game by typing, “I will let you know first thing Monday morning”? No, I won’t.
I once worked with a web programmer who I would not hear from for days. I explained to him my theory I outlined above. His response was, “If Im in the zone, I dont want to stop what Im doing to answer emails.” I saw this as a red flag as well as a rock going downhill effect because I then had to go back to the client and tell them I would not have an answer for them.
Your not always going to be able to respond to emails right away or on the weekends but this has proven to be the easiest way for me to have a list of clients I have worked with for many years.
Try it.
